Create lasting memories in the classic Victorian, Dalnaglar Castle, situated within the beautiful Dalnaglar Castle estate, on the southern fringe of the Cairngorms National Park. Relax and rewind with friends and family in this delightful 10 bedroomed castle that provides accommodation for up to 20 overnight guests.

History of Dalnaglar

The first map to show a named building on this site was published between 1747 and 1755 following a military survey and spelt Dalniglear, but in Stobie’s map of 1783 the spelling had changed to Dalnaglar. The origins of the estate appear to have been Dalnaglar Cottage, built as a hunting lodge, inhabited by the Shaw family from the late 1700’s and Dalnaglar Castle was built in the early 1860s by Daniel Robertson, although he died before the castle was completed. The estate was sold in 1867 at a traditional ‘Roup’ for the reduced price of £10,000 as advertised in the Times.

A place where memories are made

Enter the estate via the formal driveway which leads up to the castle where there is ample parking. Walk through the imposing front entrance and arrive in the spacious reception area with welcoming and comfortable seating. From the main corridor which runs the entire length of the ground floor, you can access the traditional library, housing a selection of classic books; the formal dining room which seats 20 and provides spectacular views, as well as access to the terrace; the informal breakfast room which leads into the well-equipped, newly refurbished kitchen with two dishwashers, a glasswasher, two electric cookers, microwave, coffee maker and larder. At the end of the corridor is the bright and comfortable drawing room with focal fireplace.

Uniquely Styled Rooms

The main staircase leads up to a large landing which offers access to seven spacious and uniquely styled bedrooms, with five having their own private bathroom and three offering spectacular views over the Southern Cairngorms. A small flight of stairs leads to three further bedrooms all with private bathroom, providing views of the surrounding countryside.

Access the terrace from the patio doors and venture out into the expansive grassed garden, where you can enjoy playing with family or just sitting and taking in the breathtaking, rustic views over a pond and the surrounding natural beauty and wildlife, including roe deer.

  • Two double en suite bedrooms
  • Two twin bedrooms with shared bathroom
  • One four-poster double en suite bedroom
  • One en suite bedroom can be set up as a twin bedroom or zip-and-linked to make a super king-size bed
  • Four twin en suite bedrooms

Peaceful surroundings

Dalnaglar Castle is set on a beautiful naturally elevated site in the heart of Glenshee overlooking the Shee Water, on the southern boundary of the Cairngorm National Park, within easy distance of Braemar, Pitlochry, Dundee and Perth, and also just two hour’s drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Our peaceful surroundings can provide the perfect antidote from the busyness of life.

Venture out of the estate and there are options aplenty

Stroll around the 200-acre estate, enjoying the fresh air and stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Fish for rainbow and brown trout or take a trip out on the estate’s private loch in our five-person dinghy (available with prior booking). Take a stroll along, or fish for salmon (subject to fees and prior booking) on the River Shee which runs through the estate.

  • Skiers and snowboarders will benefit from the proximity to the popular Glenshee Snowsports Centre, just ten miles away.
  • Walkers will love the Cateran Trail, with the second of the five stages of the 64-mile Trail passing through the estate. This stage takes you along a beautiful moorland route to the Trail's highest point between Strathardle and Glenshee, offering spectacular views of glens and rugged peaks.
  • The Estate also offers an ideal base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park. With a choice of 55 Munros (four of which are the highest mountains in the UK) for beginner and experienced hill walker to conquer. Kayakers and Canoeists will enjoy exploring the challenging network of rivers (instructor led beginner sessions can be arranged).
  • If you prefer to enjoy the wild highland scenery from the comfort of your car, you’ll love the breath taking 90-mile Snowroads stretch. The route, starting in the nearby market town of Blairgowrie, takes you past the Dalnaglar Estate and up through the East Cairngorms to the Highland town of Grantown-on-Spey.
