Create lasting memories in the classic Victorian, Dalnaglar Castle, situated within the beautiful Dalnaglar Castle estate, on the southern fringe of the Cairngorms National Park. Relax and rewind with friends and family in this delightful 10 bedroomed castle that provides accommodation for up to 20 overnight guests.
The first map to show a named building on this site was published between 1747 and 1755 following a military survey and spelt Dalniglear, but in Stobie’s map of 1783 the spelling had changed to Dalnaglar. The origins of the estate appear to have been Dalnaglar Cottage, built as a hunting lodge, inhabited by the Shaw family from the late 1700’s and Dalnaglar Castle was built in the early 1860s by Daniel Robertson, although he died before the castle was completed. The estate was sold in 1867 at a traditional ‘Roup’ for the reduced price of £10,000 as advertised in the Times.
Enter the estate via the formal driveway which leads up to the castle where there is ample parking. Walk through the imposing front entrance and arrive in the spacious reception area with welcoming and comfortable seating. From the main corridor which runs the entire length of the ground floor, you can access the traditional library, housing a selection of classic books; the formal dining room which seats 20 and provides spectacular views, as well as access to the terrace; the informal breakfast room which leads into the well-equipped, newly refurbished kitchen with two dishwashers, a glasswasher, two electric cookers, microwave, coffee maker and larder. At the end of the corridor is the bright and comfortable drawing room with focal fireplace.
The main staircase leads up to a large landing which offers access to seven spacious and uniquely styled bedrooms, with five having their own private bathroom and three offering spectacular views over the Southern Cairngorms. A small flight of stairs leads to three further bedrooms all with private bathroom, providing views of the surrounding countryside.
Access the terrace from the patio doors and venture out into the expansive grassed garden, where you can enjoy playing with family or just sitting and taking in the breathtaking, rustic views over a pond and the surrounding natural beauty and wildlife, including roe deer.
Dalnaglar Castle is set on a beautiful naturally elevated site in the heart of Glenshee overlooking the Shee Water, on the southern boundary of the Cairngorm National Park, within easy distance of Braemar, Pitlochry, Dundee and Perth, and also just two hour’s drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
